Plays won’t be staged at Saskatoon’s Persephone theatre anytime soon.
The theatre is cancelling its season of productions for 2020, and 2021.
It said the decision to cancel performances for the foreseeable future was made because they can’t welcome the high volume of people needed to present shows. Season budgets for Persephone are typically based on strong attendance numbers, which is not possible at this time.
The theatre will work with artists to reschedule productions.
In the coming months, the Persephone Theatre board of directors will work on a plan to hire a new artistic director.
They will also be envisioning new activities that can safely serve the community.
Persephone said their decision could change before June 2021, depending on if they can safely allow more people in attendance.
