The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) is investigating a number of recent suspicious fires.
Over the past 2 1/2 weeks, 29 suspicious fires have been reported within Central Division. Twenty of these have occurred within the boundaries of Avenue Y, Avenue K, 22nd Street and 17th Street.
Nineteen of the 29 suspicious fires have involved garbage bins or dumpsters, five have involved houses and five have involved detached garages or sheds. At this time, police believe that different people may be responsible for starting the fires.
As a result of the increased activity, the SPS has developed an operational plan that will dedicate resources to the area where the arsons have been taking place.
Police are asking anyone with information or who might be involved to contact police at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Residents are also encouraged to report suspicious activity by calling 306-975-8300.
