Construction is expected to start next month on a pair of 25-storey apartment buildings in Saskatoon’s north downtown area, after Baydo Corporation announced their newest project on Tuesday morning.
Baydo Towers is set to be built on the northeast corner of 25th Street and 5th Avenue, close to Kinsmen Park and the YWCA. It will feature 426 rental units ranging from one-bedroom apartments to penthouse suites, along with 11,000 square feet in commercial space on the lower floors.
Baydo Vice President Chris Luczka told 650 CKOM on Tuesday the construction project would employ hundreds of people and bring up to $100 million in economic investment to Saskatoon.
“It’s just really nice to be able to start a project right now,” he said. “Put a bunch of people back to work and put some money into the local economy.”
The twin towers will stand about 76 metres tall each, with 513 parking spaces in an underground parkade at the bottom. In between the two towers will be an outdoor mezzanine patio, where residents will be able to cook on barbecues and kids will be able to play on a playground set. Next to the mezzanine is an indoor games room, while the rest of the building also features a dog wash, along with an outdoor dog park.
“The amenities are hugely different comparing what they need now compared to what people did in the ’80s,” Luczka said.
Cyclists will have the option of secure bike storage, while also having access to a bicycle tune up room. Luczka noted the underground parkade will feature spots big enough for a pickup truck, while also having spaces for electric vehicles with chargers.
Luczka added that tenants would have access to riverside parks and a view of the South Saskatchewan River.
Baydo Towers is expected to be ready in late 2022, with prices starting at $975 for 502 square-foot one-bedroom apartments.
