The ceremony was brief — less than half an hour — and physical distancing measures were carefully executed.
The Saskatoon Police Service paid tribute Friday to RCMP Const. Heidi Stevenson and the other victims of the mass murder last weekend in Nova Scotia.
A short motorcade of Saskatoon police vehicles — emergency lights on — made its way along 25th Street East and officers parked in front of Saskatoon police headquarters at an angle at least six feet apart.
Media were also asked to stand on a median and observe the short ceremony from a distance.
A framed picture of Stevenson sat atop a small table in front of the building as officers stood at attention, and Chief Troy Cooper read a brief statement from a podium outside.

Cooper described Stevenson as a mother and a community leader and acknowledged her sacrifice in the line of duty. He then read out the names of each victim.
A lone bagpiper played “Amazing Grace” prior to the speech, while a trumpeter played “The Last Post” shortly after.
Officers then saluted those who had been killed with lights and sirens blaring, bringing the ceremony to a close.
