Two people were arrested after a fight broke out on a City of Saskatoon Transit bus Monday night.
At about 10:30 p.m. police were called to the intersection of 20th Street West and Avenue T South for a report of a stabbing.
Four people had reportedly got into an altercation while they were passengers on the bus.
Police found two victims, a 38-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman who were suffering from serious but non-life threatening stab wounds.
They were transported to hospital.
Two suspects had run from the bus. One of the suspects was seen trying to hide under a vehicle by the police air support unit. When police got to the vehicle, they took a 14-year-old girl into custody.
The second suspect was observed by the air support unit trying to hide in a backyard in the 100 block of Avenue S South.
Patrol and canine officers went to that location and took a 21-year-old man into custody.
The suspects were believed to be under the influence of an intoxicant.
The bus driver was not hurt in the incident.
The director of Saskatoon Transit, Jim McDonald says during this COVID-19 pandemic, people should only be taking the bus when absolutely necessary.
“We again ask everyone to please only take transit when necessary – that is, to go to work, get groceries, medicine or for medical appointments not related to COVID-19 symptoms, “McDonald said. “Our buses are running to get medical staff, first responders and other essential workers where they need to go so they can help the rest of us.”
McDonald adds, avoiding unneeded trips provides operators and necessary travellers the physical space they need for a safe ride.
A 21-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault (x2), impersonation and breach of conditions in the incident.
The 14-year-old girl was released without charges.
