A downtown hot spot in Saskatoon was the scene of a shooting Tuesday evening.
Police were called to Hudsons on 21st Street before midnight after a man walked into the bar and fired a gun.
According to police, staff stopped the suspect and held him until officers arrived. A rifle was recovered at the scene.
Nobody inside was hurt.
A 25-year-old man was arrested and is facing several weapons charges.
Burrows Law Office is right across 21st Street from Hudson’s.
Their owner, Laurie Burrows, said he didn’t hear anything about the shooting Tuesday night.
“It’s quite a surprise to me.”
He said in that area, they haven’t had issues that he’s seen when it comes to violent crime in the past 15 to 20 years.
“Apart from individuals at times wanting funds from people, I have not really witnessed anything. I’m here nights sometimes, I’m here weekends, and I have not witnessed anything of any serious consequence in the one or two blocks.”
The incident Tuesday night was out of character he said, and he was shocked to hear of an incident of that violent nature.
“It’s shocking, but you just have to be really alert about that and maybe we’re becoming ‘big city,’ I don’t know what brings it (to the downtown) to be honest with you.”
He said with the high amount of foot traffic in the area, it makes incidents a lot more serious for the public, and the downtown businesses.
Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information to call 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
