Kindersley woman charged in death of baby makes court appearance

A 28-year-old Kindersley woman charged with second-degree murder in the death of her baby daughter made her first court appearance Thursday morning.

Teenie-Rose Steer was led by the RCMP into the Rosetown courthouse with her legs and hands cuffed. Her appearance was brief.

Her lawyer, Carson Demmans, called in by phone as Steer waived the reading of the charges and was issued a no-contact order with three people, including two with the last name Steer.

The case dates back to Sept. 27, 2018, when the Kindersley RCMP responded to a report of a one-month-old girl in cardiac arrest.

The child was taken to hospital but later died. The autopsy was conducted the next day.

After a 17-month investigation, Steer was arrested and charged with second-degree murder Tuesday.

The girl’s name has not been released.

Steer will remain in custody until her next court appearance in Rosetown on March 12.
