An iPad containing images of child pornography has resulted in charges against two Regina residents — one of whom allegedly was trying to extort money from the other.
According to the Regina Police Service, a 36-year-old man told police Sunday that his iPad had been stolen. He said someone was demanding money for its return because he had child porn stored on it.
The man was arrested after he used a different source to show officers the images that were on the machine.
On Monday, officers identified a 20-year-old woman they suspected of the extortion scheme and arrested her when she tried to collect the ransom. The iPad was recovered and her cellphone was seized.
The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit got a search warrant for a house in Regina and found child pornography on a computer and hard drives in the home. The items were seized for further analysis.
Jeremy John McMillan was charged with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography. He made his first court appearance Tuesday and was released on conditions.
Deandrea Emmalee Moise is facing charges of extortion, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and carrying a concealed weapon. She also appeared in court Tuesday and was released on conditions.
Both cases were adjourned to March 17.
