It appears as though at least one of the Jerry’s Saskatoon locations has closed because of outstanding rent issues.
A notice posted on social media last week abruptly announced the closure of both locations, however, no specific reason was given.
A ‘Notice of Distress’ posted on the front doors of Jerry’s Artisan Burgers and Gelato on 51st Street East indicates nearly $121,000 in back rent is owed.
The landlord is listed as Neptune Capital, which seized possession of the goods and equipment in the restaurant on Friday.
The notice indicates that unless all rent arrears are paid off by Wednesday, everything inside will be appraised and sold off according to law.
It’s not clear whether the same applies at Jerry’s Food Emporium location on Grosvenor Avenue, although a Cushman and Wakefield lease sign is now posted in the front window.
On Tuesday, at least one person at the Grosvenor Avenue location was seen carrying items like ketchup bottles out of the restaurant and loading them onto the bed of a pickup truck.
The Food Emporium opened 23 years ago, while the second location on 51st Street East opened in 2012.
Original owner Jerry Kristian sold the stores to his management team five years ago.
Kristian told 650 CKOM last week the restaurant business can be very difficult when the economy turns down and people’s dining habits change.
“The power and desire of people for the big chains has certainly increased and it’s made it more and more difficult,” said Kristian.
Kristian added, he was very sorry to hear about the closure of the two Jerry’s restaurants.
