Saskatoon’s new red light cameras are set to become operational within the next six weeks, with installations beginning at major intersections in the next 14 days.
The City of Saskatoon confirmed the time frame to 650 CKOM on Tuesday.
The city will begin with the Eighth Street and Preston Avenue camera, which is set to become operational within the next two weeks.
The last of the four cameras to be installed will be at 51st Street and Warman Road.
The city said contract negotiations with the vendors took longer to settle than expected.
“That’s all finished now, and the new equipment is arriving, with electrical prep work for the new infrastructure taking place now,” city social media consultant Julie Mintenko said in an email.
The cameras are all run by the city, and any funds received by the province will be invested in traffic safety initiatives.
Those initiatives include pedestrian safety improvements or high-speed barriers on Circle Drive.
The speed and photo radar programs are run through SGI.
