So far so good for CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie in this calendar year.
Earlier this month, he introduced the new ownership group for the Montreal Alouettes. The Als’ new governor, Gary Stern, came across as passionate and colourful in the introductory news conference.
The follow-up hirings of Mario Cecchini as president and Danny Maciocia as general manager gave the Alouettes a level of credibility they didn’t have last season when the league owned the team.
Then on Thursday, there was the announcement of the 2020 edition of Touchdown Atlantic. The league’s most popular team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, will face Toronto in a Week 7 regular-season game in Halifax.
Players will arrive early. There will be a festival of sorts leading up to the game, and those hoping to one day own a franchise in the Maritimes will get to be in front of Eastern Canada’s football faithful to gauge interest.
When Ambrosie took the job as commissioner, he said that there is a “football season and a business season.” The business season is off to a solid start in 2020.
