It’s finally Saskatchewan’s chance at Touchdown Atlantic as the CFL returns to the East Coast, and it’s a chance I for one never thought would happen; not many teams like giving up a home date with the Roughriders in town.
However, for this game it make sense. There’s not a better image for the CFL trying to convince the local politicians and taxpayers that it will create a buzz for Halifax than this, as the league is still having difficulty launching a tenth franchise.
What I hope is a few Saskatchewanians head east for the first time to see what a wonderful city Halifax is and a great part of Canada the Maritimes are.
In return those who are unfamiliar with the CFL and a bit skeptical can see the passion and love of the game we have, and maybe it rubs off.
The Riders are the best example of regional support lending itself to a tremendous fan base, one the league hopes can be cloned for the Atlantic Schooners.
Maybe the Maritimers just need to see how it’s all done, up close and personal.
