Two Saskatoon police officers stationed in Iraq are safe, as the RCMP suspends a training mission involving the cops.
The training program for Iraqi police conducted by Canadian officers was paused Wednesday due to “the current situation.” The decision comes after Iran fired missiles at bases housing U.S. and Canadian military personnel in retaliation for an American drone strike that killed Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
The RCMP said 12 police officers from across Canada were stationed in Iraq for the training mission. Saskatoon police confirmed two of their officers were currently on assignment in the Middle Eastern country.
A statement issued by the RCMP confirmed all of the police officers were safe and accounted for.
