Saskatoon emergency services are taking applications for a safety education program aimed at seniors.
The age-friendly community academy is a course for people aged 55 and over. They’ll be taught about a variety of issues, like internet safety, fire safety and how to report a crime.
It’s a joint effort between police, the fire department and the Saskatoon Council on Aging.
Dori Krahn, the community relations co-ordinator with the fire department, told CKOM’s Brent Loucks it’s a good opportunity to both get informed and have fun.
“Once you get there, it’s really interesting. You make some new friends, and learn so much every time you come,” she said.
Some other topics touched on will be elder abuse, fall prevention, the 911 system, and K-9 policing.
The deadline to apply is January 15. Twenty people will be selected to take the ten-week long program. Classes will be held every Wednesday between February 12 and April 15.
