This past weekend, Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) saved a young woman’s life by administering Naloxone.
In a Facebook post, SPS said when their officers arrived to the possible overdose, the woman was lying on the floor unconscious.
“Her breathing was shallow and her pulse was slowing down. The Constable immediately recognized the signs as an overdose and administered Narcan which revived her within seconds,” the post stated.
The life-saving measure works by reversing the depression of the central nervous system and respiratory system caused by opioids.
“This marks at least the 12th administration of Naloxone by SPS members so far this year. That’s 12 lives saved,” the post said.
SPS said the Saskatchewan Health Authority offers take-home Naloxone kits.
