While some people are used to seeing others ride bulls at Agribition, something more unique — and motorized — is to take over the Brandt Centre on Tuesday night.
As a part of Canadian Western Agribition, Global FMX is bringing freestyle motocross to the Queen City.
“Freestyle motocross is basically dirt bikes flying over 75 feet through the air, pulling out some of the biggest tricks in the sport of freestyle motocross including backflips, kiss of death and cliffhangers,” said Kris Garwasiuk, the owner and operator of Global FMX.
Along with all the big jumps, the show will include an inflatable landing ramp for the first time.
“It opens the door for such a wide variety of stunts and some real crazy stuff to go on,” Garwasiuk said. “There’s nothing like (the live experience). The TV just doesn’t do justice to the size of the jumps and the extent of the tricks that these guys do.”
The performance is to include six of the top motocross athletes in the sport, including two-time Canadian champion Jeff Fehr, who is also a world record holder.
“His record is that he has backflipped a motorcycle in a natural terrain atmosphere further than anyone else on the face of the planet,” Garwasiuk said.
Along with a couple veterans in the sport, the show also features Garwasiuk’s son Kruze, who’s just six years old.
“He’s quite a big feature in our show and usually his autograph (line) is the longest at the end of the night too,” Garwasiuk said.
Global FMX has performed a side show during the Monster Spectacular show in Regina in years past.
“That’s just a tidbit of what we are going to be doing here. This is the full production live show. It’s going to be huge,” Garwasiuk said.
Garwasiuk said Global FMX often performs events in conjunction with rodeos because the two sports go well with each other.
“There’s a really good mutual respect because what they do is crazy and … what we are doing is crazy,” Garwasiuk said. “I think at some point every kid that has grown up in agriculture and grown up on a farm has either owned a motorcycle, a dirt bike or ATV at some point in their life, so they can kind of relate to what we’re doing.”
Tickets for the event are available online. The show is to get underway at 7 p.m.
