Wray Morrison: The heart of Clark

Some offensive linemen joke about it. Some take it personally. Offensive linemen can be the most unappreciated people in football.

On television, the starting O-linemen get introduced at the beginning of a game, then you don’t hear about one until there is a holding penalty.

The CFL’s West Division all-stars were introduced yesterday and, as far as the eight Saskatchewan Roughriders were concerned, much of the attention turned to quarterback Cody Fajardo and defensive end Charleston Hughes, who racked up 16 sacks this season.

I was one of many happy to see that Dan Clark was chosen by the Football Reporters of Canada for the West all-star team. He is deserving of the recognition based on his play alone. However, this is a man who overcame a serious car crash in early May, and played a key role in helping this Roughriders team host the West final for the first time in a decade.

Clark is proof of what can happen when inspiration and heart match talent.
