It’ll be an interesting day Wednesday when we see the nine finalists for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award from the respective teams.
Cody Fajardo should be a lock for the Riders.
But the names that he’ll likely face off against are impressive receivers in the B.C. Lions’ Bryan Burnham and Reggie Begelton of the Calgary Stampeders. And who knows what Winnipeg is going to do with the Andrew Harris suspension conundrum? Or maybe it’ll be Willie Jefferson.
Brandon Banks’ 1,500-yard receiving season and 13 touchdowns for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats becomes likely the stiffest competition for the Riders’ quarterback, assuming he makes it out of the West Division.
The wording of the award isn’t most valuable player, it is most outstanding.
What Banks is doing is absolutely outstanding in yards and scores. Fajardo’s stats are good, and he’ll likely get close to combining for 5,000 yards of offence through the air and on the ground, along with 30 touchdowns.
His record could also improve to 13-4 as a first-year starter.
It’s getting harder to prove to me anybody has been better than Fajardo in 2019.
