Though the Saskatchewan Roughriders have bigger fish to fry than individual awards, you have to believe a few Riders have a chance to be in Calgary for the awards ceremony during Grey Cup week.
Of course, they’re hoping the entire team is there to win the whole thing.
But let’s start off with Cameron Judge. The third-year Riders linebacker is definitely in consideration for top Canadian thanks to outstanding play all season.
Then there is Charleston Hughes. The Riders’ veteran defensive end will once again lead the league in sacks and, though the back half of the season hasn’t been as impressive as the first half, the numbers show he could be the West nominee for the defensive side.
And finally, Cody Fajardo. So far he has an 11-4 record as a starting quarterback and he has the Riders in the conversation for top spot in the West. He’ll likely lead the CFL in passing yards and has thrown or run for 26 touchdowns so far this season.
The last Riders player to win an individual league award was in 2013, so maybe it’s a good omen the Riders have a chance to win three in 2019.
