The Royal Canadian Air Force has grounded the Snowbirds.
One member of Canada’s famed aerobatics team — which is based at 15 Wing Moose Jaw — had to eject from his Tutor jet Sunday before the team was to perform at an airshow in Atlanta.
The pilot wasn’t injured and his plane crashed into an unpopulated area.
In a statement, the RCAF said it has “temporarily paused” the use of its Tutor fleet in the wake of Sunday’s accident.
“Thankfully no one was injured, and the pause remains in place as a precaution while the RCAF investigates the cause of the crash,” the statement continued.
“While this means the Snowbirds won’t be able to perform in Houston this weekend, the decision is necessary to ensure the safety of Royal Canadian Air Force personnel who operate the aircraft and that of the general public.”
As a result of the decision, the Snowbirds won’t be performing at Wings over Houston — the final scheduled show for the team this season.
