It was a weekend full of crime in Saskatoon that had police officers extremely busy.
On Saturday alone, a 31-year-old man was killed at a home on Howell Avenue. Mohamad Al-Zawahreh, Darrell Keith Dustyhorn, Destin Mosquito, and Devin Wesaquate are facing manslaughter charges.
Also on Saturday, a 38-year-old man was found badly beaten up on 20th Street near St. Paul’s Hospital. A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy each face a charge of aggravated assault.
And a 25-year-old woman is recovering after the car she was in was shot at in an apartment parking lot on 5th Avenue.
Saskatoon police spokesperson, Alyson Edwards, said it isn’t just the number of calls coming in that has them swamped, it’s the severity of them.
“In the past we’ve dealt with a beating. Now, that’s a stabbing,” said Edwards. “In the past where we’ve dealt with a stabbing, that now involves firearms.”
Police were so swamped over the weekend that they had to call in officers from different units to help out.
