It has been a joy reliving 1989 this week on The Green Zone.
Of course, with Glen Suitor as our CFL analyst, we reference that magical season a tonne but it’s a special game for many in Rider Nation.
For me, it was the season I fell in love with the Riders. I went to the opener and comeback against the Stampeders. I was there for Labour Day and I started to collect cards, stats, programs — I really, really miss the game-day program by the way — and autographs.
At eight years old, I didn’t treat my ‘The Kick’ poster signed by Dave Ridgway and Jeff Fairholm as well as I should have. But it’s framed and a proud keepsake from the team that spurred my interest in the CFL.
Hearing from Roger Aldag, John Gregory, Ray Elgaard, Ridgway and Don Narcisse is still crazy to me. These were the men I adored growing up.
Do you know how many times I did the Narco strut growing up? Enough to have perfected it.
Can you believe it has been 30 years ago? And still, it never gets old hearing the stories of the greatest game in CFL history.
