Construction season can be a frustrating time with road closures and detours popping up daily.
Saskatoon police say they are noticing barricades aren’t stopping some drivers.
Last month a city of Saskatoon worker recorded a driverĀ getting out of the vehicle and moving a barricade, then putting it back and driving through the work zone.
Staff Sgt. Patrick Barbar said unfortunately they see this too often.
“Often times it’s people driving within the coned area or people hopping on a sidewalk to get around them,” he said.
“The problem is when you start taking chances you might come across the work zone that has the big hole dug into it.”
Barbar said the fine for driving through a marked work zone is $90. That jumps to $250 for moving a barricade or a sign.
He said people need to respect barricades even when it appears workers are not present.
