The Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre (SPCC) is under lockdown after two incidents Monday.
Four inmates were injured and treated for those injuries.
In an email, the Ministry of Justice’s Drew Wilby confirmed that Saskatoon Police would be investigating the incidents, and the ministry will be conducting an internal review.
However, late Tuesday afternoon, Saskatoon police told 650 CKOM they had not been contacted by the ministry.
“The primary concern in any of the province’s correctional facilities is the safety and security of staff, inmates and the facility itself,” Wilby stated.
Last Thursday, a stabbing at the SCC sent an 18-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries.
The man has now been identified as Brent Checkosis, who was in custody as one of the eight charged in the death of Tiki Laverdiere.
In that incident, Kihiw Jason George Fourstar, 19, and Jesse Edward Phillip Mackenzie, 22, were charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and aggravated assault.
