For August, it was a very cold Saturday night and early Sunday morning. So cold in fact, that both Saskatoon and Regina broke records for August 18.
Saskatoon reported a temperature of 0.7 C and Regina hit 2.2 C. It was even colder in some other areas.
“On Sunday morning, Last Mountain area, our station there, recorded -0.6 C and North Battleford -0.5 C, so just under the frost mark there,” said Terri Lang with Environment Canada.
Just last week we spoke to agriculture consultant and farmer Kevin Hursh, who said that an early frost is of grave concern for most farmers in Saskatchewan right now.
In many cases, depending on the region, and what was planted, the growing season got off to a late start because of poor weather conditions, resulting in a delayed harvest.
According to Lang, we’re not quite out of the woods yet.
“Well, it looks like the next couple of mornings will be on the cool side. I think there’s still a risk of frost running into Tuesday and maybe even Wednesday morning, and then things start to warm up after that,” said Lang.
