An incident earlier this week has once again brought to light safety issues around St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
On Sunday, a nurse was robbed outside the hospital. Her cell phone and wallet were stolen.
She was not injured in the incident.
A 28-year-old man has since been arrested and charged with robbery.
Karen Barber, executive director at St. Paul’s Hospital, said the first thing they typically do after an event like this is check the facts to determine exactly what happened. From there, they communicate the incident with staff to let them know what’s happening and to give them reminders about their personal safety.
Barber also said there are safety programs in place at the hospital.
“Security services offers a safe walk and safe ride program, and they can be contacted at anytime through the switchboard — either by staff or by patients, families or visitors.” she noted.
Barber added if someone doesn’t have a cell phone to access the safe walk and ride program, there are options.
“They can stop at the emergency department and go to the security desk and ask for that service,” Barber said.
