It may be a stormy Thursday in Saskatoon.
Environment Canada put out their convective outlook, and there’s a system coming across from Lloydminster on the Yellowhead corridor that could bring severe weather.
It could come with hail, and the possibility of land spout tornadic activity.
Environment Canada’s Terri Lang clarified what a land spout tornado is, and the difference between it and a supercell tornado.
“Supercell thunderstorms can last for hours, and they create the strongest tornados,” she said. “(Land spout tornados) can dip down, touch the ground for a few seconds, and then go back up. They’re dangerous still, but they’re not the same danger as a supercell tornado.”
The outlook is for central and southern Saskatchewan.
In terms of when we’ll be able to start looking past this severe weather, Lang said the indications show that we’ll be moving on at some point next week.
A large ridge of high pressure is expected, that will bring hot and dry conditions.
