As another school year comes to an end in Saskatchewan SGI is sharing it’s photo radar data from school zones.
It turns out thousands of drivers in Saskatoon struggled to slow down to 30 kilometres an hour in the zones through September 2018 until the end of May.
SGI photo radar led to 9,194 tickets being issued to speeders.
October proved to be the most challenging month for Saskatoon drivers with 3,589 tickets, including one for a driver caught going 77 km/h.
Saskatoon police wrote another 2,034 tickets for infractions in school zones.
School zone limits run from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays while class is in session in Saskatoon.
They ended for the summer on Friday.
In Regina, school zones are in effect from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week all year round with a speed limit of 40 km/h.
With the extended hours, its no surprise the Queen City had more tickets.
SGI photo radar caught 11,408 speeding drivers between September and the end of May.
Last month was the busiest time with 1,979 photo radar tickets issued and also had the record for the fastest driver at 83 km/h.
Data from Regina police was not available.
