Mayfair Hardware is celebrating a milestone.
The store, located on 33rd Street in Saskatoon, opened its doors 70 years ago, this month.
The business will be marking the occasion on Friday and Saturday for their customers.
Their owner, Bruce Thomas is now 88-years-old, but he still had advice to give to give business owners trying to reach the same success that he has had.
“You just have to want it. Like what you’re doing, and time goes on, that’s for sure,” he said. “(And) always have a smile on your face.”
Thomas says he doesn’t have any problems getting people into the store now, after all of the years in business.
“I got to know a lot of people. Quite a few of them have been lifelong friends. My dad passed away at 61, I was quite young then when I really took over and did all the buying, but I pulled through it alright.”
He took things over with his mother, and various relatives who helped him keep the business running. They kept the business at the same location since day one, and he gave a sneak preview of what their anniversary celebration will look like this weekend.
“We have tea, and coffee, and coke for the kids. We can’t forget them, their the coming customers, alright.”
