People flying into or out of Saskatoon International Airport are about to have more options for how they get to and from the terminal.
The airport is starting to sign agreements with ride share companies, allowing them to pull over in designated areas to pick up and drop off passengers.
The first such deal was announced Friday morning in partnership with Rel8, an Alberta-based ride share.
Rel8 also launched their service in Saskatoon on Friday.
The five-year agreement between the airport and Rel8 allows the company to start giving rides from the terminal on June 24.
C.J. Dushinski, vice president of business development for the Saskatoon International Airport, told 650 CKOM the deal is just the first of many.
She said they already have an agreement in place with a ride share company that hasn’t announced their operations yet, and negotiations are continuing with Uber – which became the first ride share service in Saskatoon in February.
Since ride share was legalized in the Bridge City, no services had been allowed to pick up passengers due to the lack of a deal.
Dushinski said they’ve allowed drop-offs during the negotiation period, but once deals are in place the airport will be stricter about who they allow to unload passengers.
