Saskatoon police use help of On-Star to nab car thieves

Saskatoon police got an assist from On-Star in preventing a dangerous car chase through city streets Saturday.

A stolen 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was reported stolen to police shortly before noon.

Unfortunately for the thieves, On-Star, an in-vehicle security system and emergency services provider, was installed in the vehicle.

Two hours later, On-Star called Saskatoon police saying the vehicle was on the move.

Air support units were in the area at the time of the call and were able to quickly spot the erratic driving vehicle on the east side of the city.

After a request from officers, On-Star remotely shut the truck down, allowing ground units to move in and arrest the two men inside the truck.

Police said zero injuries or damage to any vehicles occurred during the brief chase.
