A dramatic police chase through Saskatoon’s north end and the Osler area ended with a man in handcuffs Monday night.
It started just after 5 p.m. on the 3300 block of 37th Street West.
In a media release, Saskatoon police said a man stole an SUV that was left running with a child inside.
The 9-year-old boy jumped out of the moving vehicle after recognizing what was happening, according to police. He was not hurt.
Police followed the SUV until it left the city headed towards Warman, at which point the RCMP was notified.
The SUV made it to the Osler area before turning back toward Saskatoon.
City police used a spike belt to slow down the vehicle, which eventually stopped near the Costco on Marquis Drive.
As the suspect ran into the store’s parking lot, people loading up groceries started calling 911 to report him. The calls helped officers track him down and arrest him.
Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
