Homeowners in core neighbourhoods that lack off-street parking will be able to leave their cars where they are for a while longer, after Saskatoon city council voted Monday to double the length of time a vehicle can be parked on the road.
Councillors initially approved the change to a 72-hour on-street parking limit back in February, but enforcement had to wait until administration rewrote the parking bylaw and brought it back to council chambers.
The shift comes after homeowners who have to park on streets complained about the 36-hour limit, which meant people had to move their cars nearly every day.
The new bylaw does have one exception to the rule: City crews still only need to provide 36 hours of notice ahead of street maintenance, and vehicles that aren’t moved can be ticketed.
