A video showing the burning of a Nazi flag that was posted to Facebook is now under investigation, according to the Melville RCMP.
On Friday, the RCMP was notified of Nazi and Confederate flags that were flying above a home in Kelliher.
The sight of the flags drew plenty of criticism across the province when photos started circulating via social media on Thursday.
In a media release, the RCMP said an officer spoke Friday with the homeowner and the occupant of the home about the concerns raised by others in the community. The RCMP said in the release that flying the flags wasn’t illegal, but noted its officer was acting “as a voice for the community.”
The owner verbally agreed to remove the flags as soon as it stopped raining, saying it would be too dangerous to climb the television tower from which the flags were hanging.
Before the owner could get to the flags, a video was posted to Facebook just after midnight showing a person holding a Nazi flag as two others lit it on fire. Caleb Pelletier claimed responsibility for removing the flags, burning them and posting the video.
The RCMP is investigating the incident and will meet with the occupant of the home.
