A group of Yellow Vest members might affect traffic in Saskatoon on Saturday.
Protesters are planning to move a convoy of trucks through Saskatoon streets beginning around noon.
The convoy will start with a brief rally at Sasktel Centre, before moving into Saskatoon via Idylwyld Drive and turning on to Circle Drive at the Travelodge by Wyndham hotel to travel south. The convoy will continue along Circle Drive before turning off at Lorne Avenue and then once again at Eighth Street East.
After moving east on 8th Street, the convoy will head back on Circle Drive, this time moving north before arriving at the Ramada Hotel.
Saskatoon Police Service is estimating around 100 vehicles will be part of the convoy, while organizers say the number will be closer to 80. Police noted the convoy will mostly consist of pick-up trucks, and officers were told no semis have been registered to take part.
Staff Sgt. Patrick Barbar told 650 CKOM the convoy will have a police escort, which will keep the trucks from clogging up both lanes on Circle Dr.
He noted when the convoy is travelling down Eighth St., it could take up to 15 minutes to move the vehicles through a single intersection.
“We will have officers deployed along the route at all the intersections, in order to enable us to get the convoy through as one entity and get it out of the way as quickly as possible,” Barbar said.
He reminded drivers to ignore traffic signals and obey an officer if police are directing traffic in an intersection.
