As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, the smoke had subsided and fire crews appeared to have a handle on a once fast-moving grass fire that posed a risk to the Sweetgrass First Nation, Table Mountain area and the Village of Prongua near Highway 40.
Battlefords RCMP had asked the public to avoid the area starting around 2:30 p.m. In an update issued shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday, RCMP stated the fire had been contained and under control as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Battleford Fire Department and Sweetgrass Fire Department responded to the blaze.
Traffic was restricted in the area of the blaze to allow crews room to work.
To date, no information was available regarding any injuries or estimates of property damage resulting from the fire.
