Last week 650 CKOM’s John Gormley announced Rob Norris was considering running for mayor in Saskatoon— on Monday Norris confirmed it.
The former SaskParty cabinet minister said the campaign is in the very early stages.
“We’ve entered the exploratory phase,” he told Gormley on Monday morning. “Which is fancy political talk for ‘we’re out listening and learning.'”
Norris isn’t officially running in the October 2020 city election yet but believes he has support.
“The key for me has been the number of people that have approached me, that have invited me–in fact encouraged me to give this very serious thought,” Norris explained.
Norris said he has heard from constituents that feel the city’s current mayor and council lacks focus and discipline.
“The gap between the decision makers on council and citizens and taxpayers, I think it’s a very significant gap,” Norris said.
The next city election is schedule for Oct. 28, 2020.
