Saskatoon lawyer Beau Atkins has been chosen to head to the new-look Remai Modern board of directors.
“I am honoured to lead the board during this transition phase, and look forward to working with an exceptional team,” he said.
Atkins’ interim appointment was made during the gallery’s annual general meeting Tuesday.
Grant Stoneham has been elected interim vice chair.
The interim appointments will allow the board to assess the workload as it moves through the transition process and the selection of a new Remai Modern CEO, the gallery said in a news release.
Coun. Cynthia Block, Coun. Mairin Loewen and Fatima Coovadia are staying on as board members.
Louis Christ, Allison Lachance, Doug Matheson, Grant McConnell and Debra Pozega Osbum are the new members appointed.
The board is in the midst of turnover after seven members departed in February, some citing City Hall interference.
Mayor Charlie Clark told reporters Wednesday that any allegation of interference over political ideologies was false, and that city council’s concern has been to ensure a safe workplace.
