A 25-year-old man faces serious charges after running from police early Tuesday morning.
Police said in a news release that officers spotted a stolen SUV in an alley on Avenue M South at around 4 a.m. Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle but it sped off.
According to police, they received a call minutes later and found the stolen car crashed into a pole at a park in Caswell Hill with gun ammunition found inside.
Officers saw the man running from the scene and gave chase. As the man was running from police, he threatened to shoot officers.
Police said the man then broke into a multi-unit home on 33rd Street West, barricaded himself inside and told police he had hostages. Three people eventually came out of the home unharmed.
According to police, a canine unit took down and arrested the man, who suffered dog bites. He wasn’t carrying a gun.
The 25-year-old faces charges including break and enter, unlawful confinement and uttering threats. He also had outstanding warrants for his arrest in relation to armed robberies, aggravated assaults, weapons charges and breaches of conditions.
