A suspected thief’s attempt to get away from Saskatoon police in a stolen vehicle had mixed results Thursday morning.
The unidentified person jumped out of the driver’s seat of a truck while it was travelling at 50 km/h on Parkdale Road, letting it roll into a city bus around 7 a.m.
Police said in a release they received a report of a stolen truck on the 800 block of Hunter Road around 6:45 a.m.
The truck had been left running with the keys inside.
Officers found the truck travelling westbound on Parkdale Road, and a cruiser followed it and watched as the suspect “obeyed all the rules of the road.”
Then, all of a sudden, they jumped out of the truck and fled the scene.
The truck collided with a city bus going southbound on Acadia Drive. The bus driver and a passenger on board weren’t injured.
A K9 unit attempted to track down the suspect, but they weren’t found.
The truck, on the other hand, was recovered.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
