The Saskatoon Police Canine Unit had a busy morning Thursday, tracking down two perps responsible for break-ins in the span of just two hours — and a single police dog is lapping up the praise.
The first incident took place shortly after midnight, when patrol officers responded to a home on Avenue B north after someone broke a window. Police dog Loki and his handler tracked the suspect to a nearby home on Avenue D north, where police found a man wearing shoes matching the foot impressions the canine had tracked. The 41-year-old was arrested and charged with break-and-enter and breaching probation.
A second break-in occurred less than two hours later, police said, when a man was seen throwing a rock through the window of a business on 2nd Avenue north and running out with the cash register.
Once again, Loki picked up the trail and tracked the suspect to 3rd Avenue north where officers spotted him getting into a vehicle. The police gangs and guns unit performed a traffic stop, and the 44-year-old suspect was arrested. He was charged with breaking and entering and possession of break-in instruments.
