One week ago recreational cannabis became legal in Canada, and now the Saskatoon Police Vice Unit is looking into businesses that might not be on the “up and up.”
On Wednesday a letter was delivered to four non-permitted businesses warning them about illegal operations.
“It is our goal to provide a safe and secure community while ensuring that persons who use cannabis for medical or recreational purposes have access to it through safe and legitimate sources,” the letter reads.
According to police, once the business gets the letter owners can voluntarily comply with cannabis legislation.
“We are asking that organizations examine their existing practices to ensure they are not engaged in any illicit activity,” the letter states.
It directs the recipient to look up the rules on the Health Canada website and to go over the Saskatchewan legislation.
It’s not clear which four businesses received the letter.
