A knowledgeable football fan, who lives in Saskatchewan, told me on the long weekend, that the Roughriders may be that team of destiny that wins the Grey Cup.
That was before the CFL trade deadline, where the team added to its depth.
Now is the time for playoff-bound teams to go all in, and Riders G.M. Chris Jones did that on Wednesday by trading for a pair of national veterans including offensive lineman Philip Blake.
Blake can play in multiple positions on the offensive line and has 57 games of CFL experience. He’s also spent some time in the NFL.
The Riders have found creative ways to win, but have struggled in scoring offensive touchdowns. Offensive line depth may bring those struggles to an end.
That knowledgeable Saskatchewan football fan may be biased, but that team of destiny just improved its chances of a Grey Cup appearance with good deals at the CFL trade deadline.
