Police vehicles lined Lucyk Crescent in Willowgrove expecting to deal with a hostage situation rarely seen in Saskatoon.
It all turned out to be a hoax that raised blood pressure for residents in the area.
A man called police at 8:40 a.m. saying he was at a house on Lucyk Crescent and was holding two people hostage, according to a Saskatoon police media release. He added that he had shot one of the hostages in the knee and demanded a ransom.
The caller also said he had multiple firearms and explosive devices on him as well.
Police found the call to be a hoax when residents inside the address had no involvement with the call. Then, police located a man at another house in the city whose name was used by the caller, but he was also caught off guard by the questioning and had no involvement with the hostage call.
Officers cleared the area just after 9:30 a.m. Monday. An investigation to get to the bottom of the hoax is ongoing.
Police are asking anyone with information into the strange incident to call Saskatoon Police at 306-975-8300 or Saskatoon Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
