There is something ironic about Matt Nichols’ season.
The Bomber quarterback threw for a season high 291 yards against the Ottawa RedBlacks back on August the 17th.
Yet that game marked the first loss of the current three game losing skid that the Bombers find themselves in.
Since then Nichols has found himself at the centre of controversy.
He was asked about being booed at home after that game, and then after a loss to Calgary he was accused of throwing his receivers under the bus on national television.
It’s been a trying time for Winnipeg’s leader.
This brings us to the Banjo Bowl.
Right after Sunday’s Labor Day weekend win, Riders coach Chris Jones was quick to point out that Winnipeg had a very good football team. He is right. This is a Winnipeg football team that was 5 and 3, and at one point this season put a three game win streak together.
Nichols is a great quarterback, which leads me to believe that he won’t be down and out for long.
The Riders had better be ready. There will be a team that sees the best of Matt Nichols soon.
