Saskatchewan RCMP are promising a review after a police-issue pistol was stolen from an unmarked vehicle.
The Saskatoon Police Service was brought in to investigate the theft, which happened Thursday morning around 8 a.m. in a hotel parkade, where the RCMP vehicle had reportedly been left overnight.
The gun was described as a silver-coloured Smith & Wesson model 5946 handgun with a black grip and an RCMP image etched on the side.
Saskatoon police released a photo of a suspect in the theft. He was described as a man in his 50’s or 60’s with dark, greying hair that was longer on the sides and balding on top. He was reportedly wearing a black t-shirt with white printing on the front and a beige or brown sweater.
In a Friday afternoon news release, RCMP said that the officer involved in the theft will be “temporarily re-assigned to administrative duties.”
The internal review will continue and updates will be distributed when available.
Anyone with information was asked to call Saskatoon police at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
