The Saskatchewan Roughriders have only scored more than 20 points in a football game once this season, and that was in Week 1 when they knocked off the defending Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts at Mosaic Stadium.
There is one obvious reason for the lack of points: Zach Collaros has not finished a game since that June 15th win. Quarterbacks Brandon Bridge and David Watford are finding their way.
To some fans, Duron Carter’s talents are being wasted on defence. Many in Rider Nation think this has also led to dismal offensive production. I don’t believe Carter’s shift to defence has hindered the Riders. There are still some very good pass-catchers on this Roughrider team.
I believe the play of the offensive line and the lack of use of Jerome Messam has had a lot to do with this slow start. Run-blocking and pass-protection have to be better. Messam has only carried the ball 11 times in the last four games. This 1,000-yard rusher from a year ago has to play a bigger role for this team generate more offense.
