We will likely have forgotten about this point of the season in two weeks. However, we in the media, fans and perhaps even members of other CFL teams are attempting to decipher what happened at Rider practice on Tuesday, and how it may affect the team for Thursday’s game in Hamilton.
Riders coach Chris Jones stopped practice and ripped his team for a lack of effort.
When Jones met reporters, he steered them towards Brendon Labatte by suggesting one of the best team leaders must be frustrated. Labatte then suggested the effort in Tuesday’s workout wasn’t good enough. Was this pre-planned or did Jones really boil over? We may never know.
A coach once told me that you can kick the garbage can twice in a season. A third time and players start to tune a coach out.
Consider this a garbage can-kicking. How this Roughirder team responds against a 2-2 Hamilton team may be a very good indication of how players are receiving what coaches are telling them.
