Warnings issued as hot weather continues in Saskatchewan

People across Saskatchewan woke up to warm weather Wednesday morning, which Environment Canada says should last through the weekend.

In Saskatoon, temperatures could hit a high Wednesday of 31 C, dipping to 16 C at night.

Regina is expected to reach a high temperature of 28 C with a low of 14 C at night.

Both cities are expected to see highs well over 20 C through the rest of the week, with some rain expected Friday night and through Saturday.

Meanwhile, the weather service issued heat warnings for nearly the entire north and much of central Saskatchewan, stretching from Fond-du-Lac to the Battlefords.

People were advised to try and plan outdoor activities for cooler times of day, drink plenty of water and to take frequent breaks from the heat.

Parents and pet owners were reminded not to leave children or animals inside hot vehicles for any length of time.

The warnings also noted the increased risk of heat stroke and heat exhaustion due to the warmer weather. Symptoms of those conditions include high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting and unconsciousness.

Children, seniors and people who suffer from diabetes, lung disease or other medical conditions are especially vulnerable.
