We will be knee deep in football in the coming days, but I just wanted to close the book on one final National Lacrosse League topic.
First of all, congratulations to the Rush.
I’ve noticed many people, in voice and online, were disappointed there were no highlights of the Rush’s championship win on TSN’s SportsCentre or Sportsnet’s Sports Central over the weekend.
The news programs were all about Johnny Manziel, baseball and the Belmont Stakes.
In order for the NLL to get national exposure on a cable sports network in this country, the league will require a non-streaming, non-digital, over the air national television deal with either Rogers or Bell.
About a decade ago, some Roughnecks games were on Sportsnet, and two years ago TSN carried a package of NLL games on both sides of the border, including the league final.
By the way, in 2016, there were highlights of the Rush’s championship win on Sportscentre.
If the NLL is satisfied with digital/internet television broadcasts, then that’s great. However, that’s also where the league will be promoted – not on a national over the air sports network.
Again, congratulations to the Rush.
Now it’s on to the CFL – on TSN.
